About
Hello! My name is Amit Lakhani. I live in Didcot, Oxfordshire with my wife and 2 children.
I have been a web developer for 12 years and have specialised in WordPress for 8 years.
I have worked on a wide range of jobs, ranging from a quick 10-minute bug fix to full-blown CRM systems, eCommerce sites and sales and production systems.
I enjoy working with local companies to improve their web presence. I offer a simple, jargon-free, friendly service which my past and present clients often comment on.
I enjoy cycling ( a fairly new hobby), music, travelling and spending time with my family.
More background (it gets a bit technical)
I started off my web development career at a small Oxford-based digital agency in 2008, working primarily in PHP, HTML, CSS and MySQL to create bespoke websites for local Oxford businesses.
I later went on to work as the IT Manager at a home/business automation and energy monitoring company. My main task alongside general company IT upkeep was to manage and develop a realtime energy monitoring website where, for example, you could see how much energy your computers or lights were using and then switch them off or set triggers, such as, if it is out of hours then turn off the lights. This really allowed me to familiarise myself with the full web development stack and build up my PHP skills.
I then decided to travel and remotely freelance as a web developer for 6 months. I built up a good customer base and decided to continue freelancing.
As the popularity of WordPress grew over the years I found there was a lot of demand for help with WordPress sites. This naturally led to me to build up my WordPress skills working directly with small businesses who were on a budget.
When I had my first child I decided to be a stay at home father, but with a mortgage and bills to pay, I used to work while my daughter napped and also at weird hours of the night. At this point, I had gained contacts with a number of small digital agencies and ended up taking on the bulk of their web development work. As I didn’t deal directly with the end client I didn’t have to be available during the typical 9 to 5 working hours, which was perfect for me.
Fast-forwarding to the present, my children are now at an age where they attend school, so I have decided to start a new episode in my career where I will still work with agencies but now I am available during normal working hours, I will once again offer affordable and reliable web development services directly to the end client.
