I get to work with a lot of people while freelancing. And a lot of the designers and developers use Apple Macs.
A digital marketer/developer that I work with recommended Setapp* to me. It is basically a curated set of Mac apps that members get access to for around £10 a month.
At first I didn’t think I needed it, however, I eventually decided to try out the 7 day trial as I wanted to try out the ‘Timing’ app to help me use my time more efficiently and keep track of how long a project takes.
After the free trial, I couldn’t understand why I didn’t sign up sooner. There seems to be an app for every task. Using these apps saves me a lot of time, so £10 a month is a new brainer!
Some of my favourites are:
- Paste – it is a clipboard manager which saves a history of items copied to your clipboard so you can reuse them again later.
- Yoink – this adds a ‘shelf’ where you can drag files to and then later move or copy them to save where else. The idea is simple but it is extremely useful.
- CleanShotX – I quite often take screenshots to annotate and show clients. Built-in to macOS is a screenshot tool but CleanShotX adds to these functions, my favourite feature is that you can copy a screenshot and paste it straight into an email or WhatsApp rather than saving it and then having to drag it across.
When you are using a computer all day, these little things can add a little pleasure to your day and also save you a lot of time on tasks which you shouldn’t be wasting time on.
Aside from my favourite, frequently used apps, when I occasionally need to complete a different type of task, like bulk renaming files or creating a video I can reach into my Setapp tool belt and know that the right tool for the job will be there.
Give it a try and I guarantee you will love it.
*If you sign up to Setapp using the links on this page then I will get 1 free month of membership.
